- 德蘭生於熱心的教友家庭。首次申請進修會時，由於未達法定年齡而不獲接受，她在羅馬朝聖謁見教宗時，請求教宗特准她破例提早進修院，教宗回答：「假如天主的聖意要你進修會，你的願望一定會實現的。」同年年底，她獲接納進入加爾默羅修會。
- 她的靈修「小方法」是在靈性方面作一個小孩，一心依靠天主。在服從其神長的指令下，她將一生的靈修經驗記錄下來，編成自傳。
